Affan’s philosophy behind every project is the design and engineering. We currently employ over Designers and Engineers, all with significant experience of working on complicated structures. Every project begins at tender stage where we use 3D modeling in Tekla to fully explore the project and understand its complexities. At this stage we fully engineer our solutions so that we are able to present our findings to the Architect and Client and at the same time this allows us to completely assess the costs associated with delivering the completed project.

From the point of award we will prepare our 3D models complete with full structural analysis and 2D shop drawings for approval by the Client’s team. Once approved, fabrication details will be taken directly from the 3D model allowing precise procurement and then a seamless transition into production and delivery to site.

All components are specifically tagged and numbered according to the relevant position in the structure and the associated installation drawing.

Affan has completed a variety of metal and glass assemblies including:

• Glass roof lights; simple and free form including complex barrel vaulted assemblies
• Bolted fixed / Spider facades
• Tensioned glass façade systems
• Glass fin walls
• Canopies
• Internal and external glass screens
• Complex one–off assemblies including glass staircases

Affan has committed significant time, money and resources in the field of carbon fibre engineering. In close association with Airbus, the material has been developed into an Carbon fibre composites in the Airbus A380 Infusion technology allows the construction of a carbon and glass fibre core that can be “infused” with a finish to match the Architects specification

For example where a stainless steel finish is required, a 1mm 316 grade sheet can be infused with the carbon composite core to create a steel finished panel with a fraction of the weight. The same technology sees the use of limestone and granite, marble and aluminum. This is particularly useful where anodized finishes are preferred.

The technology is state of the art and up until recently only used in branches of aviation, automotive, wind energy and marine systems. Affans’ association as part of the CFK Valley Stade has facilitated the progression of this sophisticated material into then construction arena.

To date the technology has been used on the following types of constructions:

• External facades
• Canopies
• Roof lights.
