About Affan
Founded by Dr. Amer Affan in 2004 in Dubai, UAE, Affan has emerged as a market leader in the field of steel and glass structures. Our commitment to innovation drives us forward; in 2009, we pioneered the development of advanced structural composites, enabling architects to realize truly three-dimensional surfaces.
Affan building was made of structural composite. Cladding was designed so that the building looked more like an office building than a factory.

Meet Our CEO
Dr. Amer Affan, born in Damascus, Syria, went to school in England and graduated in 1987 from Cambridge University with a doctorate degree in Structural Engineering, specializing in space frames and pre-stressed tension assemblies.
Following a brief spell at NASA in California, USA (working as a computer analyst on the space station) and then as a teacher of structural engineering at Cambridge University, Dr. Affan joined MERO in Germany in 1988, building MERO’s first-ever skylights with tension rods forming the entrance and roof structures of the Montreal Museum of Modern Art in 1990.
Dr. Affan also worked for Mannesmann façade maintenance system (now Manntech), initially as a technical designer and later as the overseas sales manager based in Germany.
Dr. Affan moved to Dubai in 1995 and was involved in the design and execution of many high-profile projects for MERO and Mannesmann such as:
- Emirates Tower glazed skylights and entrance canopies
- Mercato glass roof
- Sahara Centre main entrance
- Dubai Trade Centre glazed façade with tension assemblies
- Emirates Aviation College entrance glazed façade and its rear glass bridge
